Annual Writing Competition 2020

– The Competition –

It’s that time of the year again – The Auricle’s most anticipated (and only) event, The Annual Writing Competition. This is a wonderful opportunity to express yourself, and to give yourself a chance to win some prizes!

This year, we’ve made it more inclusive with a visual art component (meaning that ‘Annual Writing Competition’ is technically a misnomer, but we’ve kept it the same for sentimental reasons!!). If writing’s not necessarily your thing, get creative and show off some of your photography/graphic design/art talents as well!

For 2020, we’re working harder than ever to foster your online shopping habits with The Auricle’s biggest prize pool yet:

1st Place

2nd Place

3rd Place

Honourable Mentions

Visual Art

There will be:

  • Pre-clinical and clinical winners for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and honourable mentions
  • One overall visual art prize.

Additionally, for each submission received, MUMUS and The Auricle will be donating $5 to StreetSmart, an organisation taking action against homelessness. The pandemic has had a significant effect on those living out on the streets, with fewer social services available, and an increased risk of contracting the infection. We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the devastating effect of COVID-19 on one of our most vulnerable groups in society.

– The Prompts –

We encourage you to be creative with your interpretation of the prompts, so think outside the box!

Prompt 1: ‘Back in my day, I lived through a pandemic…’

Prompt 2:  ‘The life so short, the craft so long to learn’ – Hippocrates. What are the sacrifices we all make in order to perfect the art of medicine?

Prompt 3: Artificial intelligence will eventually render healthcare workers obsolete.
